Southwestern University – Forecasting Analysis
Assignment:
Create trend forecasts of game-day attendance that extend far enough to reach the
stadium capacity of 54,000. Create at least three forecasts: average attendance, homecoming
attendance, average attendance for games 1,2,3, and 5. Graph each one. Revenue should be
projected out to the year that the stadium capacity is reached for each of the forecasts based on
the information in the case study.
Submit a single Word document with one page single-spaced, 12 pt font. Include at least
two graphs, and embed the graphs.
The assignment should have a brief executive summary with your recommended options and
projected revenue for years 2016 and 2017, introduction or background, the body which
discusses the options. Consider writing the executive summary last, but it should be placed at
the beginning of your document after date, addressee, your name, etc.
Use good grammar. Get help if you need it (Grammarly is one option). Use expressive
language. Be careful about using the word “very” (what does that mean?) and do not use the
word “thing” – not even once.
Hints:
Instead of creating separate spreadsheets for each year, create one single spreadsheet
You will need a variable for your x-axis. It could be representative of a date (e.g., 2010.0,
2010.2, 2010.4, etc.) or a game number 1-30 for the given data. For the homecoming
forecast, the year will suffice
Use a separate column for your trend forecast. Extend the forecast far enough to exceed
the capacity of the stadium.
Revenue projection data is included in the case study (Average ticket price of $50 in
2016 and a projected 5% increase each year in future prices.
Consider adding markers to your plot of the data, but do not use markers on your trend
forecast
