Discuss the importance of being on time – both in terms of attendance and getting your work complete. You should begin your discussion focused on the real world. Perhaps you have (or had) a job where you needed to be there on time for your shift. Others of you may have had supervisors who expected you to work independently.
THEN, I’d like you to connect this real world experience to being a student, especially how you think it will relate to being a college student.
As you consider your response, think about the following: What is the purpose of requiring students to actively participate and submit all work on time? How will holding students accountable to these standards help them accomplish their academic goals? What assumptions do you have about being a student? What do your assumptions say about you? What are some specific goals you could accomplish with your degree upon successful completion of your undergraduate schooling? What values inform your decisions?
