Introduction:
You are to write a research paper on the current state of technology involving the use of CASE
(Computer Aided Software Engineering) Tools in the industry. In your paper you are to state
and support a position as to whether the extensive use of case tools has been of significant
benefit when taking into consideration the cost of the tools, the extensive training needed to use
them, and the quality of the product produce by them. The basic requirements of the paper are
described below:
Upper Division Writing:
This assignment satisfies the Universities Liberal Studies Upper Division Writing
requirement. Students must pass all four sections of this assignment with an average grade
of “C- “or better in order to satisfy this requirement.
CEN4020 Upper-Division Writing Objectives:
1. Through the demonstrated knowledge and use of Florida State University’s Library and
Database search capability.
2. The student will be required to thoroughly research the functional area and requirements
for their particular idea for a system. The student will be required to produce a
substantial bibliography of their sources with proper citations in accordance with IEEE
2006 standards.
3. The document shall be formatted and organized in accordance with the guidelines in the
assignment.
4. The document will be available for review by the Instructor, peer student body of the
class and the Teaching Assistants.
5. The document shall be written in such a manner as to use a descriptive form of technical
writing as covered in the Textbook by Pfieffer “Technical Writing – A Practical
Approach, 5th Edition”.
Basic Requirements:
All of the following requirements must be met in order to receive a passing grade on the paper.
If the paper does not satisfy any of the following, it will receive a zero.
¾ The paper must be written in the latest version of Microsoft Word and submitted in the
.docx format.
¾ The document must have a title page and automated table of contents.
¾ The paper must be a minimum of 1500 words as display in Microsoft Word. The
Bibliography will be considered part of the word count.
¾ You must have at least 5 cited references taken from refereed Journal or Conference
paper.
¾ One of your references must be from a source you located using one of the Databases
from the FSU Library (lib.fsu.edu).
¾ The paper must be submitted through the correct portal on canvas. It is your
responsibility to ensure that the file is submitted properly.
Submission:
Assignments must be submitted through the Assignment Portal for in the CEN4020 Canvas site.
Assignments are due on or before the end-of-day (11:59:59 P.M.) on the due dates. Students
may submit the assignment files up to 5 times prior to the submission due date and time. The
last submission will be graded
Formatting Instructions:
¾ Enter the bibliography information for ALL SOURCES using the References->Manage
Sources ribbon.
¾ Spacing will be 1.5 except for quotes and the bibliography which will be single spacing.
¾ Be sure to indicate which source(s) came from the FSU Library Database Search
¾ Your paper must include at least one quote located on a paragraph by itself indented 1/5
inch on both the left and right margin. The text should be single space and italicized.
¾ Every quote must be cited with a footnote stating the author, title, dates and page
numbers for the source of the quote.
¾ Your paper must have at least three major headings (an introduction, body, conclusion as
examples)
¾ Each source must be cited in your document at least once using the MS Word citation
tool.
¾ Your paper must include at least one picture, graphic, or image of your choosing that is
related to your topic. You must also have a caption with every such object.
¾ The document must have page numbers centered in the footer.
¾ The header of the document must have the title and the document to the left and the date
of the last revision on the right
