You are the Managing Partner of a quantity surveying practice that is based in Tauranga, New Zealand. Your company is growing fast with recent proposed housing developments in the area. Your company has decided to hire five more junior estimators to assist with the current workload. (This scenario is applicable to Q1 and Q2)
1. Discuss five (5) of your own personal leadership attributes that would help you to run your business successfully. (10 marks)
2. (a) Discuss three (3) motivational factors you will implement for the above scenario in order to achieve a high performing team (6 marks) Hint: key motivators that influence a person to achieve desired goals.
(b) Discuss one leadership style that will be suitable for the scenario in Q 1 to achieve effective leadership (2 marks)
(c) Discuss two (2) advantages of the leadership style you have chosen in Q 2(b) (2 marks)
3. (a) Communication can flow in different directions within hierarchical levels in an organisation. One of the communication flow direction common to Managers is downward. Discuss three (3) advantages and two (2) disadvantages of downward communication flow within organisations. (5 marks)
(b) Site meetings are important in the successful management of construction projects. Regular site meetings between different stakeholders on a project can help facilitate better communication and a shared sense of purpose, making it more likely that the project is completed successfully. You are required to send an email as a Site Manager to invite all stakeholders to your monthly meeting. Discuss any five (5) key items that will be included in your email to make it a concise, clear, professional invitation (5 marks).
