Main Claim

1. Write a main claim that is focused enough to defend in a 6-8 page paper.

2. Make sure the main claim is a complete sentence that states a debatable position. Remember, if there’s no debate, there’s no argument. Be sure to find the debate by identifying actual, reputable experts, scholars, or thinkers who disagree with some significant aspect of your argument.

Outline

1. Under the main claim, bullet your subclaims or key supporting points, remembering that each piece of the main claim needs to be fully defended, one point per subclaim/body paragraph.

2. Under each subclaim, bullet two pieces of evidence with accurate MLA in-text citations.

3. For each subclaim, write a sentence or two indicating how the evidence supports its subclaim.

4. Include a counterargument, with a specific source and citation and your rebuttal to that counterargument.

Each submission will also include:
